Key things to know
- The IND (Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst) handles all Dutch residence permits, and recognised sponsors can get Highly Skilled Migrant applications decided in as little as two weeks.
- The Highly Skilled Migrant permit is gated by a minimum gross monthly salary threshold that's updated each year and differs for applicants under and over 30.
- The zoekjaar (orientation year) lets recent graduates of a Dutch or top-ranked international university stay up to a year to search for work or start a business, without needing a job offer first.
- As a Schengen member, short tourist stays fall under the standard 90/180-day Schengen rule rather than a separate Dutch visa regime.
